Refund and Dispute Policy
fileustaxes.com
This policy covers the fee you pay File U.S. Taxes LLC ("File US Taxes," "we," "us") for tax preparation. It is not about your tax refund from the IRS, which we never hold or touch. It sits alongside our Terms of Service and the Engagement Letter you sign. If they conflict about your return, the Engagement Letter controls.
1. What you pay for
Our fee pays for the preparation and review of your return by a tax preparer and for filing it once you sign. It does not depend on the size of your refund or on the outcome of any IRS review, and we never promise a refund amount. The price you are shown at booking is the price you pay; it does not change afterward.
2. How you can pay
Pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App, Amazon Pay, buy now pay later, bank payment and more. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your full card or bank details. We file once you've signed and your payment clears.
- Cards and wallets (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App, Amazon Pay) usually clear right away.
- PayPal and Venmo are also available at checkout. Payments made this way are processed by PayPal and are refunded to the PayPal or Venmo account you paid with.
- Bank payments can take several business days to clear. We file only after you've signed and the payment clears.
- Buy now pay later is offered and operated by the provider you choose, under that provider's own terms. We are paid by the provider; your installment schedule, fees and any late-payment terms are between you and them.
- Other currencies. If you pay from outside the US, the checkout may show the price in your local currency with the exchange rate shown before you pay. That is the amount you are charged.
- Pay from your refund follows its own terms on the Pay From Your Refund page.
- Card on file. If you choose Pay From Your Refund, we save a card on file. It is charged our fee only if you don't sign and let us file within 10 days after your complete return opens for you to review and sign. If we file it, your card is never charged and our fee comes out of your refund. Exact amounts are shown once your return is prepared.
3. When you get your fee back
- Before your preparer starts work on your return: full refund of what you paid, on request.
- After work has started but before we file: you can cancel at any time. We refund what you paid minus a fair charge for the work already done (the Engagement Letter, section 7.2, calls this fees already earned), and we tell you the amount before we issue the refund.
- If we can't complete your return in compliance with the law or our professional obligations (Engagement Letter, section 7.3): refund of any fee for work not performed.
- If we made a mistake on your return: we correct it at no charge, including an amended return if needed. If we cannot correct it, we refund the fee you paid for that return.
- Duplicate, wrong or unauthorized charges: refunded in full.
- After your return is filed with your signature, the preparation fee is not refundable except in the cases above. We cannot undo a filing.
Not refundable: any tax, interest or penalty owed to the IRS or a state, and the fee for a return you asked us to file and we filed as you directed.
4. How to ask for a refund and how long it takes
Email [email protected] (or leave a voicemail at 1-855-711-9111; we call back) with your name and the email you used to pay. Please don't put tax documents or personal tax details in the email. We reply within 2 business days.
Approved refunds go back to the original payment method, for the full amount you paid and in the currency you were charged, within 5 business days of approval. Your bank or card issuer then usually takes another 5 to 10 business days to show it. Buy now pay later refunds are processed through the provider, and the provider adjusts your installments.
5. If you have a problem or a dispute
Please contact us first. Most payment problems are fixed in a day or two, and a refund through us is faster than a bank dispute.
- Email [email protected] and tell us what happened. We acknowledge within 2 business days.
- A member of our team reviews your request, your Engagement Letter and your payment record, and gives you a written answer, normally within 10 business days.
- If we still disagree, the dispute-resolution process in our Terms of Service applies (informal resolution, then binding individual arbitration).
Disputes with your bank or card issuer (chargebacks). You always have the right to dispute a charge with your bank or card issuer. If you do, we will respond through our payment processor with the records of your order: the Engagement Letter you signed, the payment, and what we delivered. If the dispute is decided in your favor, that amount counts as refunded to you and we won't charge you again for it. If you've already received an approved refund from us, please tell your bank so the same charge isn't returned twice.
